What type of rod and reel? (Lagoon)
« on: July 23, 2009, 10:56:59 AM »
Guys,

I am very new to this and I will be fishing out of a lagoon in LBI in the coming months.  Can anyone please recommend what type of rod and reel I should get?  I don't expect to catch anything much, maybe some snapper if I a school swims by or something.  Any recommendations on the length of the fishing rod and how much lb test I should use, etc.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Aloha,

Welcome Aboard, snapper.  Your request for information is great.  All you need is a light spinning outfit in the 6'6" to 7' range with light line around 10# or so.  Your best bet is to go to a store like Dicks Sporting Goods or your local Bait & Tackle shop to get a good starting out fit.

If you go to Dicks ask for Bob and he will get you started on the right track.

Good Luck.

Happy Catching

Paul

i can't say you will catch much on the lagoons, except crabs.. Leave the fishing pole at home and bring the crab traps instead.

You always have a shot at snappers and eels in the lagoons.  I agree, make sure you have some crabbing supplies too.  Fun to catch and great to eat!

snappers on spearing, and hook a piece of squid or clam at night for eels.  I grew up on the lagoons in Manahawkin, Beach Haven West.
