Got back from my anniversary vacation w/ the wife in Mexico at midnight, got a few hours sleep, and then ran down to the boat for today's fluke trip Had Matt, Vince, Pete, and "Texas" Tom aboard. Wind was honking out of the SSW at 6 and the ocean was sloppy so I made the call to fish the river.
Started out with the end of the outgoing, had just a few fish in the first couple of hours, but one was a nice 21" fish taken by Tom. Once the tide changed at around 11, things picked up even though we had a slide at some points or a direct wind against tide. Got a good pick going and had constant action with bent rods for the rest of the day.
For the most part we caught most of the fish in the deeper water between the canal and 35, but we did pick a few E of the RR bridge and between the 2 bridges.
Wound up with about ~80 fluke, of which 6 were boxers, 3 were in the 20-21" range, 1 was about 19", and the other 2 were right @ 18". All fish were taken on 2 oz. Mai Tai bucktails tipped with a live killie fished under a gulp teaser. Tom, who came all the way from Dallas, TX to NJ, was high hook with 3 nice keepers. Good trip, lots of action, and its good to be home again. Right now I'm exhausted and headed for the sack, back at it in 2 days
