Fluking on the Axel Carlson Reef 7/29
« on: July 29, 2009, 03:40:50 PM »
Got an invite to fish a friend's 26' SeaHunt CC out of Bay Head....nice setup with twin 150 Yamaha 4 strokes.

Headed through the Canal to the Manasquan Inlet by 7 AM.....shot straight out in a SE breeze to the reef where my friend nails a nice 5 1/2 lber on the first drift...bite was  strong the first couple of hours....I nailed a nice 19 incher on the second drift and we continued taking short fluke and some nice sea bass in the 15 -16" class.

Wind really picked up, shifting to the SW.....and the bite died.

We pulled the plug at noon as the skies started to form up north.

Back in the barn a 12:45....helped clean the boat.....2 nice fluke and 7 sea bass....also snagged what looked like a hickory shad.  I appreciated the invite.

On the trip home, it hit the fan as I was crossing the Driscoll Bridge....looked like all hell was breaking loose over Perth Amboy and SI.

Local road flooding caused me to be creative getting home.

Nice report and nice catch!

We've been spared the storms here in TR, but they look like they are coming... 5hrug

Always nice when you can beat it home safely.
Short trip and some fish for dinner sounds good.

Nice report. The weather has sucked most of the season. Lots of south wind and these storms lately have been no help.

Nice report. Things are starting to pickup on the reef. August has always been the month there for me.
