Hunter 2- Raritan Bay report Tues Aug 4, 2009
« on: August 04, 2009, 10:41:53 PM »
I took my friend Anthony and his 4 year old boy Frankie out this morning. Ant told me his son is always wanting to fish but Ant does not no much about it. I got down to the marina in Keyport around 7am to set up the boat and prep everything before I picked up Anthony and Frankie. I purchased some bait and ice and soft drinks. One of my friends at the marina threw out his castnet and landed around 300 Peanut Bunker in one shot. He hooked me up with some Peanut bunker for the trip and then some. t^ I wanted to have everything ready for the trip because four year old boys loose attention pretty quick.
I picked them up and fit little Frankie with a vest and head out to a local Fluking ground. The water was very dirty from the storms and full of debris. Luckily it was dead calm. I just wanted to get them on some fish in a short amount of time and didn't care if they were shorts or not. I immediately hooked into a fluke and handed Frankie the pole. He reeled it in and had his first fish ever. He was very excited. We had a nice pick of Fluke and made several short drifts. In between catching fish Frankie liked playing with the Peanut Bunker in the bucket.

We fished around 2 hours total and had 7 Fluke including one keeper, all released. I drove the pair home and prepped for the second trip of the day with Cashin.
We got back to the marina around 2pm and unloaded the Killie traps. I figured to head to the same green buoy on the raritan reach. The tide was much faster now but the water was still dirty. We were using squid strips,Killies, Peanut Bunker and spearing as bait. We had a total of 14 Fluke with 3 Keepers, and a couple of released Bluefish.
We returned to Keyport and packed it in around 6:30pm. Not a bad day on the water.
I might go out on Thursday., Good Luck,, Eddie t^

t^ Nice job Eddie. Sounds like Frankie had a good time. It's great when the kids catch fish.

Nice job Eddie, You know I love to see kids catching fish.  Give a kid a rod and reel with fish on the other end and they are hooked for life.  chrz to you and a good day on the water with your friend Anthony and his boy Frankie.
