IBSP 8-20-09
« on: August 20, 2009, 10:53:25 PM »
Had a great day of fishing IBSP today (by my standards anyway).
Went out around noon on the end of outgoing.  Small blues in the 1-2lb range and Robins were plentiful.
Surf was rough, lot of grass and weeds in the water, water was cloudy and LOTS of that tiny jelly like creatures.  Stayed for a hour or two.
Kept two of the blues for bait for later.

Back out around dinner time for the end of incoming targeting Jaws.
As we were setting up, the people just to the south of us get a double banger.  Two little kids, maybe 5 and 7 brought in two small sharks with grandpa's help.  They were so excited.  Very cool  TT^

Shortly after getting our lines in the water, the first rod doubles over.  Quickly brought in my first shark.  Dogfish maybe 30in.  It's no 6ft brownie, but I'll take what I can get.
Up until high tide we also got a Robin, my first skate and a few other missed hits.
Once the tide started moving back out, not another tap.  Called it quits after about 2 hours.

Water in the evening was rough, dirty and loaded with grass.

Great report Chris thanks,

Wait till the ocean really gets A Rockin-N-Rollin.  I love to get up on the 3rd Ave. board walk in Ortley and watch the waves crash up the stairs pretty cool.

It should be good viewing tomorrow and Saturday.

If you go bring your camera as I am sure Mother Nature will not disappoint.

Happy Catching

Paul

Good job Lt. That's a lot of action for the beach in such a short time.

Definitely my most productive day of fishing from the sand yet.
It was a good thing I kept those blues for bait.  I couldn't get  any fresh bunker on the way to the park last night.
The bluefish chunks held on the hook great.
