05 sept, lei,,,,, croaker's
« on: September 05, 2009, 08:04:52 PM »
strolled out the little egg inlet today in search of something biting. seen a small fleet set up around the research bouy's, so decided to investigate.

turns out to be croakers, and man where they hungry. caught a few, then shot out for some seabass nearby on the reef. managed 1 keeper, and several shorts. moved back for a few more croakers and wound up with a nice catch of 30 craokers, 1 seabass.

croakers where nice big chubby fellas, caught on salted clam. was drop and reel all day,,, left them biting

edit: forgot to add,, we threw back as many if not more than we kept,, thinned out the big boys, throwing the little guys back for another day.

in my opinion,, i compare croaker to tuna with a packet of sugar thrown in,, good and sweet.

they are one of only a couple fish i actually look forward to eating

Wound up talking to a guy fishing the Mantoloking Bridge the other night and said they were there. Wind was about 20 NE that night so the surf was out of the question
