Too darn cold for me

Visited my Sister-in-law yesterday in Toms River. Took a ride over to Seaside Park for a look see at the surf. Couldn't believe that the bay was totally frozen by the Rt.37 bridge.
The Ocean was pretty calm, if it had been warmer I might have tried surf fishing for a while but just to cold.
Did see an ice boat out on bay over by Berkley Island, Was that you Paul?

Nah bug man that was not me but with this freeze the bay and river are pretty solid.  There are a few spots that are not though.  I am waiting for some idiot to try and drive across soon.  I happens every time the bay freeze's over.

Wait till April/May the bass will be ready by then and the temps should be more to your liking

Spoke with Capt Doug this morning from Marathon FL Keys.  He's also in the tropical fish Business.  He said they are easy to catch now since most of them are floating on the top of the water DEAD!.  Water Temp in the back was 47 Deg...

I operated this boat back in 1970 or 1971 on Barnegat Bay looking for a clammer who was reported as overdue. Searched for him most of the night, didn't locate him. A chopper located him at first light, all was well with him, his motor broke down but he was ok.

This is what the CG boat looked like the next day. The bay was frozen from Forked River north to I don't know how far past the Sea Side (Mathis) bridge. We were breaking ice with the CG boat. That was the coldest I have ever been in my life. 

A vehicle could certainly have driven over the bay then.

Sure do Matt.  But do you remember when that nut case tried to drive the garbage truck across.  Now that takes some big ones.

I was very young, but have pictures of cars out driving on the bay.  My parents grew up here, so it was a usual winter occurrence.

My father said he used to ice fish for white perch!?

Yeah, it was a Berkley truck...Back in the early 60's.

You will probably see a number of people out fishing especially around the cove area by the Toms River Yacht Club.  Great spot for white perch.
