9-21-09 IBSP
« on: September 21, 2009, 10:54:26 PM »
Headed in to IBSP this evening to try and find some action.  My brother and his buddy were out around the southern area so I figured I'd meet up with them.  I aired down at the end of the paved road for the first time, and headed south until I found them.  They were about 1/2 mile north of the inlet.  It was a great night to be on the beach.  No bugs and mild temps, with a steady light breeze out of the east.  Started wetting lines around 8.  First cast soaked for about a minute, and I came up with a meaty dogfish.  Second cast, maybe a 2 minute soak, and came up with a decent sized croaker.  Wound up bringing in around 15 more doggies, and a big ol' skate.  It seemed like clams were the bait of choice.  I ran out of them, since I only picked up a half dozen and a bunker, and these guys weren't catching squat on their clams, so I shared the few "magic clams" I had.  They wound up producing a few doggies and a croaker themselves before my departure around 10:30.
I hope to get out again after work tomorrow, since I leave for Vermont on Thursday AM, and need to get my fishin' fix!

Nice report and not bad catching!

Where abouts in Vermont are you going?  One of my favorite states to visit and vacation in...

My wife's godfather owns a cabin in Stratton.  I'm gonna bring my mountain bike up there and tackle some real trails for once.

Might not have been bass or blues, but at least it was catching  t^
When I was airing up, I spoke with a guy who was in the middle of the AM explosion.  Showed me a pair of 18lb blues in the cooler.
I'm planning to get out Wd. or Thurs. afternoon and Friday morning.

Good luck Chris.  My brother and his buddy are out there down towards the inlet.  Bro said he missed something huge that was sucking drag.  They got a report that the blues were starting up down in SSP, so they are moving down now.  I'm at work and living vicariously through their efforts.

I am not real familiar with southern Vermont area...although it is all amazing!  It is my favorite state(not that I have been to many) hands down.  I have even considered moving up there...but for now, I just visit it whenever I can.  It is so different than Jersey.  Not crowded, laid back, friendly people, great scenery, the outdoors, is really outdoors and not a park 100 feet from the GSP...I could go on all day.

I have been to Stowe and stay up in the Northeast Kingdom area or Burlington area more.  Lots of cool stuff to do all over the state, though.  If you get a chance to have Maple(syrup) Ice Cream...don't pass it up.  It may sound weird and even taste different than normal ice cream flavors, but try it!

Lots of sightseeing to do.  If you are staying near a ski resort, up until it snows, they will take you up the mountain in the Gondola for scenic views.  Usually costs just a few bucks and the views...I had never seen anything like it.

Lots of cheese, really good cheese and wine.  Cabot Creamery is up there and it doesn't get much fresher than that.

I have never fished Vermont, either.

Here is a link to the VT Fish & Game.  They have a cool search program.  Sure you can find a lake or river and do some fishing of some type.  Wish I had fished up there, but not yet.  I am looking forward to a trip this year or next and am definitely going to fish for some esox...

Enjoy...if you have any other questions, I can try and help...believe me, no matter what you do, you will have a great time and want to go back before you even get over the state line!

Thanx for the info Matt.  TT^  I have only been through VT once, on a family trip to Killington for some skiing.  I remember being up on their highest peak and the views were amazing.  I haven't been off of the east coast and only that far north for the ski trip.  I'm hoping to get a lot of exploring done up there.  The cabin we're staying in was an old schoolhouse way back in the day.  This is really a much needed vacation.  By the photos you put up, it looks like it's gonna be great.....Just sucks that I'm getting sick now.  I woke up this morning with some congestion and I'm almost full blown sick.  Hopefully I'll be all good by 4am Thursday morning.  Ah, even so...It'll be good to get outta Jersey for a minute.  TT^
Maybe I'll even bump into one of those mooses.   thud

Hopefully you don't get too sick and it goes away fast.  I haven't seen a moose yet either, but I am waiting...Enjoy your vacation, sounds like a great time.

Love Vermont, Lake Champlain is the best. Caught smallies in the 5 and 6 lb range and the yellow perch were all over. Spent vacations on Isle La Mott it's the northern most island on the Vermont side of lake. It's one of those places that when your leaving you look in the reaview mirror and say " I'll be back".
