Fun in the Sun
« on: September 21, 2009, 03:50:15 PM »
After getting blanked during last weeks trolling excursion to the mud hole, we decided that we needed to bend some rods for a change. So off we went to SGR and sea bass city.

Had originaly planned to drop the hook, but with hardly any wind or drift, we just stopped on some nice looking bottom and dropped straight down with not much weight. I woudn't exactly call it drop'n reel fishing, but it was a nice steady bite all day. Ended up with over 100 fish caught, including a couple of nice fluke. Even with a keeper ratio of only about 5 to 1 we still ended up with some nice fillets.

On the way into the inlet we spotted several pods of bunker breaking water, with a few boats set up for snagging. With cooling temperatures and other similiar reports of bunker, I wonder if the bass can be far behind.

Very relaxing day, outstanding weather, no drama, and back in early with enough time to clean the boat, clean fish and enjoy a cocktail. It don't get much better.

Nothing fancy, mostly squid and 4"gulp swimming mullets (yellow)on a dropper rig. A little clam too.
