A big contrast to the placid lake like conditions in the Atlantic Ocean yesterday, today the 25+ MPH SE winds turned on the waves and churned up the water. Despite the high winds and waves, the fishing was still productive from land. The south jetty from the Bay to the Ocean was occupied by fishermen. There were at least 25 guys out there fishing and catching a smorgasbord of fish. A good amount of Beach Buggies were out there braving the crashing waves as well on the North Jetty.
From cocktail blues to bottom fish, the fishing was good for those out there. The best fishing by far was the black fishing with green crabs the bait of choice. Even though the shortage of green crabs on the Island was obvious, it didn't stop anyone from fishing. Finding your own shore crabs clinging to the rocks and in the tidal pools seemed like the only solution if you wanted to fish. The best place was on the Bay side by the lighthouse on the small southwest rock jetty. Protected from the wind and waves, the Tog bite was hot. Drop 'n reel fishing was on and limiting out on decent size fish of 16+ inches was very easy. The bait fish are thick as could be in there too. The spearing and mullet are so thick you could walk on them.
If you are thinking about hitting the BI from land, get out there soon and take advantage of the great fishing. Make sure you call ahead and secure your bait of choice, or so you know to bring it in with you.
