Got the Blues? - Pilot 10/4
« on: October 04, 2009, 08:58:20 PM »
The fellas on this site relly pegged the action.  slt to Capt's Don Sr/JR, Capt Ron, Capt John.

Shay Shay and my niece, the trash talker, and I ran for 3 hrs to chase a few demons  >:D   The Sandy Hook bay was thick as a milk shake at 8:30.  We crept slowly across the mouth of the Ammo pier and turned our sights on the Belford area.  Tons of birds perched on the 10 ft waterline all the way up to Keansburg.  We dropped diamonds, avas for about 30 mins without a single touch.   When we made it out front of the pier it was a different story.  Classic early fall bluefishing.  The birds started crashing the water like Kamikazi pilots on Pearl Harbor. Aerial force was met with equivalent eruption from the foraging blues below.  What a sight! The key today was to avoid as much traffic as possible and anticipate where the school was heading and shutting down.  Needless to say,  not an easy task with number of weekend warriors running and gunning with NO REGARD for anyone else on the water.

When we did manage to dodge the yahoos... we had action like you read about it.  AVA's worked ok but the preference was Yellow Bus bombers, and yellow popper with a short buck tail.  Watching these beasts explode on these plugs was almost as enjoyable to bass fishin.  TIKKI got a workout  TT^  The trash talker was having a little trouble on the cast outfits and would not take a pole with a hooked up fish because she wanted to do it herself.  You've got to love this kid.  All game and heart.  Had to insist she fight one to get a feel for it. I'm sure she's glad she did and I'll bet she'll sleep good tonight.

We wrapped up at 12:00 with flat seas in Raritan Bay only to hit that same wall of fog in Sandy Hook Bay on the way back.  Cleaned up, filleted two huge bags of fish from 10 lber's and home to catch the second half of the Giants.

Great to be out again.   chrz Till next time!

Good job Jeff, I was in the same area on the action too.  I encountered some speeding warriors too. One guy was circling around my boat trying to mark fish on his sounder. rgmn  take care,  Eddie
