Lures
« on: June 15, 2007, 06:25:58 PM »
Hey anyone here ever fished with the Lure called the Knucklehead ? Its like a silver, popper type fish. I also bought a spro, a white one, sort of like a shad dart. I heard some news about them, and also a Gulp package of Squids. Any opinions on any of these lures ? Thanks

I fished the spro last year off the surf in Cape May and off the party boats in sandy hook. I like them, they worked well for me. Caught blues and weakfish off the surf and fluke and weakfish off the boats. You just need to have them in all different weights if fishing from a boat do to staying on the bottom in all kinds of drifts.

Now how do you actually use the SPRO'S when you cast them? Are you supposed to jigg it a little, or real in slowly, im new to this lure so i have no idea. And also, for the gulp baits, let them sit ? Thanks

With the spro I cast it out and jig it up and down let it sit for a few seconds and continue. Most of the hit were on the fall. Have not used the gulp baits yet, going to use them on sunday in the Navesink. I did use the spro tiped with a fin-s in pink. Caught weakfish and blues with that combo.

Spro's are good as are the gulp squid. Caught all my fluke (3) on them yesterday.

Just let the Spro drag across the bottom or you jigged with it  for the fluke?

Is a Spro with a strip of squid fine for the surf? I know i've used it from aboat and had success, but what about from the surf?

Yup. Only time I really ever surf fished was a10-12 years ago. Small jig (before spor were popular) with squid on it. Cast out from beach and jigged/reeled slowly across bottoom

i def caught some.

Did you use a leader with it, or just tie it straight to your main line? (I use mono, i think it's 17 or 20 pound test)

Back then it was right to line, but now I would use a leader with a dropper loop teaser.
