Best place to buy anchor line?
« on: October 21, 2009, 01:22:29 AM »
What size line should I be using with a wreck anchor off of a 26ft craft? Who has the best prices?
I'd like to get the type of anchor line that is rather stiff - is there a special name for it?
I currently have nylon braid, run-of-the-mill 3/8" line and its hell to deal with in large quantities ... the softness of the line causes tangles, etc..

Thanks!
Nick

Go to 1/2" Anchor rode 3 Strand. From your post it sound like you don't have a Windlass.

I would geta round laundry basket, cut a piece of plywood to fit inside on the bottom, attach either the center from an old wire spool or mount two 2x4's (1' in length) spaced far enough apart to let you coil your rope around the inside of the basket with no tangles.

When going deep water wreck fishing I have a 600' line stored in my basket and utilize that without a problem.

Use a minimum of 10 ft of chain on the line.

Hope it helps slt

Like Fish Bait said

Call Matt at Task or Capt Rich at ---------.
Being as you do not have a windlass you don't need a special splice/Rode...so you can shop around. West Marine, Jamestown Distributers, etc
