I was dragging my heels this morning with the early snotty wind so I didn't leave the dock until 10am. The plan was to troll out front for a while and then anchor up and catch the out going tide.
We landed several bluefish ranging in all sizes from 1lb to 7lbs and managed one short 24" bass. The fish were caught from the Highlands Bridge down to the Rocks.
We set up and started chumming over by Romer Shoal for the out going tide. It was dead slow and the guys around me weren't having much luck so after an hour and a half of that I decided to start trolling again. We were rewarded with our first keeper of the season. It was my son's 9th birthday and he was thrilled. The wind dropped out and the late afternoon was beautiful on the water.
I was marking mounds of fish all day on the finder but I would not call it drop and reel fishing. The fall run is just getting started so things are bound to improve.
