The Mud Hole
« on: January 12, 2010, 03:35:52 PM »
Hey guys. I'm out of Manasquan Inlet. The Mud Hole is approx. 15-20miles off shore. I trailer my boat and was thinking of doing the majority of my fishing this year in the Sandy Hook area. I hear that the mudhole is only about 5 miles off of Sandy Hook. Is this correct? And if so, am i able to catch basically same species if I were to hit the mudhole out 15-20 out of Manasquan?

Yes.. and NO....

Bluefin will make it to the monsters ledge ( The Mud hole) 12 Miles out of shark River. But I haven't heard of them close the the Mud Buoy (Sandy Hook Area) ;D  Water Clarity And temp Plays a big part..  t^ and when conditions are right you can catch Mahi on the Sandy Hook end of the Mud Hole.

I learned all that here..  ;D

We fish the Monster Ledge often, it's approx. 35 miles from the tip of Sandy Hook.

the BA bouy (tip of the mud hole) is approx 11 miles south east of the tip of the hook. in august when the water is right, you will get mahi (upto 30lbs)in that area. Also, to the N. East is cholera bank (19 fathom line) which holds shark, mahi, skippies, bonito, albies and blue fin (many bluefish boats get spooled out there by the bluefin at night out there). i would say the best shot at the bft's would be from monster ledge out to the princess tho. but if you put your time in, you can troll or jig a bft up to the north.  hope this helps and good luck!
