introductions required
« on: February 09, 2010, 06:39:48 PM »
Hello Im new to NJ Saltwater fisherman and NJ in general. Moved down fron CT where i mostly trout fished with a very rare appearence on a local party boat for blues. Tried my hand at stripers here last fall and got nada. Looking for some tips on winter flounder to start as well as tackle for surf. I figure my freshwater outfit should be good for flounder so ill stick with that. Look foward to hearing and meeting folks. ya think a conoe is a decent choice for shark river bay?

Welcome to the site! Stick around, and in the spring when the stripers/blues come, your sure to catch some with all the information floating around here. The combination of that + all of our very friendly members and their knowledge is just amazing.

As far as the freshwater setup and fluke, all I know is you don't really want a stiff pole for fluke, but some freshwater reels have open, or near open bearings, and the salt water/spray can do some serious damage if not cleaned properly/ignored.

I wish I knew more, but I'm sure there are plenty of others on the site that can touch on this subject with great detail.

Once again, welcome to the site, and I look forward to your posts.

Welcome aboard! t^

Unfortunately, with the collapse of the the winter flounder fishery over the last few years, I'm afraid they probably won't even be worth fishing for this season. nosmly
However, if you'd like some info on winter flounder, here's a great thread with a ton of great info from many members here! clp
