New Shimano Products At The Suffern Show
« on: March 03, 2010, 07:00:03 PM »
For those of you planning on going to the World Fishing Expo in Suffern this weekend, this was just sent to me from Shimano's marketing rep:

At the show, we'll have our East Coast debut of the new PowerPro Hollow-Ace braided line - it allows for finger-trapping leaders and splicing loop-to-loop connections.  We'll also be showcasing Shimano's new Talica conventional reels, and the newly-designed BaitRunner and the award-winning Stradic CI4 spinning reels.

On hand will be Jeremy Sweet, Shimano's reel product manager, Dan Thorburn, one of Shimano's key tech service technicians, and their East Coast sales experts and pro staff on hand to answer any questions.

POWERPRO ‘HOLLOW-ACE’ – NEW BRAIDED HOLLOW CORE LINE FOR SPLICING MONO/FLUOROCARBON LEADERS, NO-KNOT LOOP-TO-LOOP CONNECTIONS

IRVINE, Calif. – Spring 2010 – A next generation hollow core braided line, PowerPro Hollow-Ace is now available in six sizes – 40-, 60-, 80-, 100-, 130- and 200-pound test, with each size offered in three different colors. “We focused on line structure, durability and connection strength with our new Hollow-Ace braid,” said Ted Sakai with PowerPro, “and also provide anglers with more sizes and colors than our original hollow core to cover an even wider range of fishing situations.”

PowerPro Hollow-Ace utilizes 16 strands of Honeywell Spectra fiber in its construction, “providing anglers that all important connection strength for all the applications it can be used in,” Sakai said. He notes the Hollow-Ace braid goes through PowerPro’s Enhanced Body Technology process to create exceptional abrasion resistance and strength-to-diameter ratio.

Answering angler requests, PowerPro Hollow-Ace comes in three colors – white, high-vis yellow and marine blue. “The brighter colors can be seen much easier, especially when the bite turns on at night for long-range anglers who use hollow core braided lines for finger-trapping leaders and splicing loop-to-loop connections,” said Sakai.

All sizes and colors of PowerPro Hollow-Ace are available in 100-yard spools for making wind-on leaders, a 500-yard box, and in 1500- and 3000-yard bulk spools.

For a limited time, selected tackle dealers nationwide (see the PowerPro.com web site for a complete list) are offering an affordable PowerPro Hollow-Ace splice kit. The kit includes a Da-Ho needle set to expand the Hollow-Ace to splice in mono, fluorocarbon or PowerPro braid, a bobbin tool and PowerPro ‘PowerFloss’ for finishing ends, and a tube of Zap-A-Gap glue. There’s also a DVD with step-by-step instructions on attaching line-to-line connections, wind-on leaders, whipping loops and splicing loops.

For more information on PowerPro braiding fishing line including the new Hollow-Ace hollow core line, all constructed with Sprectra fiber, see your local tackle dealer, visit PowerPro.com on the web, or call PowerPro customer service at 877/577-0600.

Hopefully they will be at the Somerset show also. I would be interested in checking out that hollow core line.  t^

I'm sure they will have it there Joe.  The territory rep from the northeast will be at Somerset with all the goodies.   ;D

I'm not really all that familiar with it.  I think the major advantage of this line is that it is "spliceable".  So instead of tying knots you can actually splice your main line onto your leader or topshot or what have you.  This would eliminate bulky knots that could catch in the guides and are the weak link in your line.

There are other brands of hollow core braid out already.  I've never tried any of them.  BTW, I think this line is going to be fairly expensive compared to "regular" braid.  But, that's what we said about the cost of "regular" braid compared to mono when it first came out. ;D

So who knows?
