Skunked at Graveling Point
« on: April 05, 2010, 04:24:20 PM »
Hey guys,
After a long fish-less winter, I went fishing on the surf this past weekend on Graveling Point in Mystic Islands.  This place is touted as a hot spot for early stripers, as is pebble beach which is right down the road.

We baited up at 7 am on Friday at Scott's Bait and Tackle on Radio Road and were fishin by 7:30 am.  We fished bloodworms and clams from 7:30 am to 6 pm with not even a nibble.  A passerby told us they saw 4-6 shorts caught in the past 20 minutes right up the beach, so we headed over.  Got a few nibbles, but no fish for us.

We saw a number of shorts pulled in and 3 keepers which were nice sizes for this early in the season.

I went out to Graveling Point by myself the next day (Saturday) from 1030 am to 130 pm to no avail.  It was cold, windy and had no bites so I packed it in.

Even though there were no catches for me, it sure felt good hitting the surf again:)

We were there by boat and had two keeper one 29 and one 33 and let some small ones go.  Just keep trying the more time you put in the better chance you have to get them.

Keep trying and try down sizing the tackle this time of year.  Use a circle hook and allow them to run with the small bait a little then just start reeling don't jerk the rod.

Sorry for the advise but it is in my blood to help out.  smk

Happy Catching

Great effort. It's still early in the season and they are picky. Get em next time.  t^
