Any Sponsors/Board Members do Electronic Repairs ????
« on: April 12, 2010, 03:29:45 PM »
I have a Garmin Map 182C Color GPS unit 5 years old and Garmin tells me they no longer service unit. The unit does not display.Batteries good and fuses good, and all connections checked.
Any body have a trusted and reasonable Electronic Repair Shop located in New Jersey that I could consider taken the unit.Maybe a name and phone number.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Is there a reset on it somewhere? I have a garmin in the car and about once a week I have to hit the reset button.

We don't do repairs but you can try Marine Electronics Service Corp. Last known address #1 Hickory Lane Bayville NJ 732-269-3300.
The companies want you to buy updated products so it does not surprise me that they won't service their own product although I did not expect it from Garmin. Sometimes its just not worth it to repair them anymore. If you wind up looking for something New, I'd be happy to help ya out.
Matt.

I know my Lowrance doesn't have a reset button but does have a hard and soft reset if you press a certain key sequence.

1. Turn unit OFF
2. Press and hold the ZIN&ZOUT Keys at
the same time
3 Press and hold the PWR key
4. Release both buttons when the USA map
appears
Hard Reset (Deletes stored GPS Data
such as Waypoints and trails)

I bet the Garmin has something similar. A little googling or another call to their tech support might help.

Maybe go to this site... http://www.fixya.com/support/t208972-gps_wont_boot_up
and ask your question there. Don't know how reliable of an answer you will get. You can try to determine if their answer makes sense and try it if you feel that it does.

Good luck on your repair.  t^

I found this:

http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/GPSMAP182_182C_OwnersManual.pdf

You could try searching through to find out how to reset the unit to the original factory settings.
The cure for everything is salt water: sweat, tears, and the sea.
