Trolling Stripers-Hunter 2-Raritan bay 4-14-10

t^  Pulled out of Keyport late around 5:15pm, Had to wait for the working guys to get home ;).
On board was Cashin, Joey the Italian Sub and Carburetor Scott. The weather was great, Sunny and clear around 64 deg with a light wind and calm seas. The water temp was 52 deg.I hoped to mark some nice fish on the Reach channel where I left them yesterday.
5hrug At the location, No marks were to be found. Out went the Stretch 25's anyway and we started a trolling pattern in search of Mr Striper. Before you know it zzzzzzzz! the port rod was screaming and Scott made a grab for it. The Striper came up to the surface way behind the boat and Scott surfed it all the way in. t^
After landing the fish Scott says Your next Joe and then Cashin and then Eddie. I guess he forgot to tell the rest of us who was first. hhppy chrz
Back to trolling the Starboard reel Starts screaming and Joey Subs grabs the pole and starts working him in. The Striper is taking line and is pulling hard. As it gets close Cashin has the net and notices its foul hooked near the tail. Chris nets him in and patches him up and back in the water it goes.  Cashin and I boated some Striper's next and a few got away too. You really have to keep constant pressure on the fish while using lures with treble hooks in them. Pumping the rod only rips the hole in the mouth and makes it easier for them to shake the hook.  As the sun went down we started trolling back to the Union beach area and we ate the delicious Italian subs Joe picked up at De Marcos.
We anchored up and clammed for an hour with no luck. So we head back to the marina and cleaned up. The total count on the clicker was nine fish with two keepers. Not as good as yesterday but it was hours later in the day. And we also had more shorts then keepers. It was a fun night with some good guys. t^   Good luck, Eddie
