strange first trip of the year
« on: April 20, 2010, 07:26:20 PM »
My boat is not ready yet so left very early out of sayerville on my buddy's boat KPCOE. Got to the knoll and had no marks and ran out to the sticks and decided to troll some bomber and stretch25s. Had fish on right away. All keepers with a few close the the mark that went back.  Fished between the channels south ward with steady action on the troll and some jigging. We limited out by 9:30 and had thrown a bunch back. Even had a our first tagged fish that said reward that went back. Saved the info.....By 10;00 it was dead calm and we started jigging.  Had some ok action here and there chasing birds. Could not get any topwater action going though.  Then we went deep following the ganets.  Fish were everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If you knew where to look. They where milling around on top with just there fins in the air. Not like in the fall when they are slurping ells and anchovies.  These guys were acting me in the bahamas.   Sunning...   Could not get them to bite. Threw everything at them. Got a few 20lber here and there but it was tuff going. tried trolling again but only an occassional taker and in the 10lb class....  I have to tell you that the fish were everywhere,,,,,,,,,,As the birds flew over the water the fish made swirls everywhere. As the boat drove by them they broke and dove on both sides. I have never seen so many bass around this time of year and never at this size.    I think that these fish are going to go nuts this evening.

Wish my boat was ready. Would take a few days off just to fish. Kevin took all the pics and I'm sure he will post his own link. It was a great trip. Great weather and company,,and beer....fish
