After getting blown out last week, my good friend Capt Ed of the Split Bill decided to make a run for Tuna last Sat. We left Broad Creek Marina, Wanchese NC and made a run south east out of Oregon Inlet. Don't ask me exactly where, I was running the cockpit all day. Had a double knockdown on Yellow Fin Tuna in the morning and were able to boat both of those fish. Trolled the rest of the day with no action and not hearing much on the radio, we decided to fly the kite. Glad we did, flew the kite for about an hour when both lines from the kite go off. 2 Monster Blue Fins completely out of the water! My turn, so I grabbed a screaming 50 single speed spooled with 80lb mono, with a 300lb 6ft leader and the fight was on. My son was on the other fish, but it broke the line shortly after the knockdown. Fought the fish for a good 1.5 hours and landed my personal best. 68 inches and 210.
