Yanked my youngest son, Joseph, out of school today because the weather for the weekend looks bad and Mom having her day on Sunday.
Fished with our good friends Charlie from East Coast Nets and Paulie D. We hit Great kills harbor at 5:20 AM in search of bunker. Spent 90 minutes giving it a real honest try. Threw on some readings and ZIP. Not even a pop or splash that we could see. The readings on the sonar were probably rainfish/spearing.
Went to Plan B----the dreaded troll. We put out the spoons and began the hunt for Joseph's first striper-----ever. We trolled an all white and a half chartruse/half white spoon. We did not have to wait long for some action-----A Blue in the reach reminded us of why most guys dont like wire line trolling. Then we got into the bass. Not big ones, but big enough.
Joseph (age 6) did sa real nice job with the wire. He got tired, but did not give up. He got his first of hopefully thousands of striped bass today at around 7:30 AM. Not a big one, but a real trophy.
All told, we trolled up 6 bass----all keepers. We took the three that were hooked hard and put the other three back. Jo Jo also wanted to take a bluefish----what a treat. That is getting blackened tonight and he will enjoy his bluefish burrito----bout the only way I can eat one.
God Bless America and if anyone knows where there are some bunker, shoot me a PM.
