Evening Stripers 5/15
« on: May 16, 2010, 09:39:27 AM »
headed out of Sayreville at 4 Pm on Ken's boat "The Breeze",with his wife Hon,a friend Eric and myself.we had a cooler with fresh bunker and I also picked up a dozen and half of fresh clams.plan was to go out find some life and jig, troll or whatever it took and then after dark go on anchor and chunk for them.Rounded the hook and saw a small fleet south in the distance and headed towards them,as we approached saw the birds working, tried tossing the storm shads but no takers,so Ken decides to put out the stretch 25s and troll for them.wasn't long before we were hooked up and Eric grabs the pole first,Eric hasn't been out Striper fishing yet this year, get it to the boat and it's a big Striper that gets lost right at the boat trying to lip it,gotta be carefull with all those trebles.get the net ready for the next one.continue getting hooked up,even bringing in some jumbo Blues,Eric taking most of the hookups and finally gets a large striper,we all take turns and get some nice fat ones, the biggest being a 36 inch 20 lber caught by Hon,all released to fight another day.action slowed, found a spot and put the hook out and started chunking, not really marking or any takers.Ken decides to move Back into the bay before it gets dark.eventually end up off the reach where we patiently try thu the tide swing with nothing, around 10;30 head for back bay and give it one more try with no takers and we head in around midnight.great night on the water with some good people and some great action with the stretches.  t^    Kez

Great to catch fish like there and also a good idea to be conservation minded and let them fight another day.

Nice job.  I saw a boat off its trailer on the concrete at the Sayreville dock on my way in last night.  Looked like the lower unit was in trouble.  Looked expensive.
