Fishing Registry question?
« on: April 25, 2010, 09:49:17 AM »
Does anyone know if you have to register if you are on a boat that is fishing and you are not?

On fresh water if you are fishing and the wife is sunbathing, she needs to be licensed even though she is not fishing. Or let me say she could get a ticket if the officer wants to.

So what about on salt, do we need to register everyone on the boat if they just along for the ride?

Not that it’s a big deal to register the wife, but my daughter brings a different friend every time she goes out to get some sun.
Fishing Sandy Hook and anywhere I can get on a boat.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife sells all of my fishing tackle for what she thinks I paid for it!

Good Question.

I am thinking No.. Since people on the water just running their boats don't need to be registered..

Not Fishing.  Not Registered..  Can't fine me for having poles on my boat when I'm not fishing.

Same goes for people on the boat not fishing while you are.

Sunbathers do not need to be registered.

Remember too, the registry is for people fishing for anadramous species and those fishing in federal waters.  So, even if you have six people on your boat fishing, none of them need to be registered if you're just fluking or bluefishing inside of three miles. ;)

Of course, if you accidentally catch a striper you may be in trouble. ;D

Copied directly from the NOAA site asking if you need to register...

Saltwater Angler Registry

Although you will not be targeting anadromous species*, if you catch an anadromous fish, you need to be registered. Therefore, NOAA recommends that if you will be fishing in tidal waters where you might catch an anadromous fish, then you should go ahead and register.
