Had the Chris Peres charter out last night for a LIMIT of Stripers. Sailing today on our "Magic Hours" (3 pm to 8 pm) fishing trip, and based upon a call I got earlier today from one of the great bass anglers at my marina, headed for Raritan Bay and immediately ran across pods of bunker being harassed my stripers. Bass after bass were swimming beneath them so we snagged about 2 dozen and started chunking and livelining the bunker. Within 20-30 minutes.......BAM our first fish was on and it was a 4 man limit of 12-28 lb. stripers within a short time.
Without a doubt, one of the best Stripers charters I've enjoyed in awhile with fish on my finder throughout our stay. While we were anchored, we watched pods upon pods of bunker swimming through along with a pod of voracious bluefish doing flips and dives all around us. Oddly enough, we didn't land a single bluefish and best of all not a single throwback striper. An absolutely amazing evening on a flat calm bay and best of all, only a few boats around, except (which I am very upset about) the charter boat that roared through my slick. Being a gentlemen I won't mention who he was but he knows........not a professional move!
Now let's hope this new body of fish (sea lice all over their bodies) stay put for awhile.
Tight Lines,
Capt. John
