Had the John Toth party from the Bergen County Saltwater Anglers out for the opening day of the Fluke season. Although the weather started off miserably at 6:30 am (wind and rain), the day turned out quite nice. We started off drifting the Shrewsbury River with nothing but shorts coming up. I did that waiting for the tide to shift to outgoing at the tip of the hook in an area that I really like for early season Fluke.
I stayed away from "kiddie city" at the Bug Light and did a few drifts around the Earle Pier for some 15 -17.5" sub legal fish. Although we had some steady action with those fish, I wanted some legal keepers for our fish box, so I moved to a spot that I like for early season fishing and as expected, we started catching keepers in the 2.0 - 3.0 lb. range and best of all we boated a big plump
6.0 lb, 24" beauty of a fish.
Great way to start the season off. By the way.........bucktailing was the way to go.
Tight Lines,
Capt. John
