Today I had Dave and his 2 sons (Dave Jr/Jake)for our first bay/ocean combo trip of the season. The plan was to hit the blues on the flats, then look for some fluke in the bay, then finish up on an inshore ocean wreck for some seabass. This would be 9 year old Jakes first trip on the ocean and he sure was excited. A quick run down the bay and a few stops at places that had been covered in blues a few days ago only produced a handful of fish. With the slow bluefishing the guys set their sites on fluke. They enjoyed a nice pick of fish over some large areas from Oyster Creek Channel to the inlet. They finished up with 41 shorts and one 18.5" keeper when we set our sites for an hour or two on the ocean. The North winds were just what the doctor ordered as the wrecks were light up with life. Jake got his first taste of the ocean playing drop and reel with pin seabass and out of season blackfish. Dave Jr managed a nice 17inch tog on his first drop. His dad Dave was grinning ear to ear. The guys had fast action and even boxed a few for dinner. I have to say the father and son trips are always special. I think I enjoy them more than the charter.
I like to shout a big THANK YOU to Capt Jerry and Capt Wayne for putting me on the meat Monger style yesterday. Thanks guys and if anybody sees a 200lb plus Threasher with a FishMonger hook in its mouth please let us know.... we have a score to settle.
