DAD'S DAY 2010-
GOOD- OFF THE HOOK- GOOD- OK- OK- GREAT
Friday- DAY- Started us off on the Dad Day 2010 Odyssey. Fishing was GOOD, not lights out but good enough to know you went fishing!! The Blues were FAST MOVERS and what has become a standard, catch 6, wait, catch 6, wait, move, REPEAT created anticipation by all. Unfortunately we also got the 12pm "last call" from the blues as well.
Friday- NIGHT- Aunt Karen from PA returned and just as in last years trip for her family, the BLUEFISH put on their feedbags and Capt Rich hit a honey hole!! (only this year it didn't rain!!) Off the hook night fishing was had by all
Saturday- DAY- we started Day 2 of Dad Day 2010 watching one of the most impressive displays of porpoises that I have ever had the honor of witnessing. 100's of porpoises were having breakfast in-shore and the sight was awesome. Off to the bluefish grounds we went. Once again it was just ok- good fishing. The Blues were still on the move and we are moving with 'em. Again we had the catch a few, wait, catch a few, wait, move, repeat. Those that put their time in on the rail were rewarded.
Saturday- NIGHT- GREAT hope of a repeat of Friday had some Saturday DAY Dads laying over for the trip!! Unfortunately, the Bluefish went into a finicky mode and were not as aggressive or plentiful as Friday. A blue SHARK was seen gobbling up bluefish beside the boat and that may have a lil something to do with it, hmmm.....
Sunday- DAY- the big "REAL" Father's Day 2010, pressures on, foggy conditions (200 foot visibility)....oh boy...
The BLUES were on the move again and the entire fleet used every radio channel known to mariners to find 'em. Captain Jim was dialed into his new radar and was marking fish on the machine that in one pile were hard on the bottom, the next just off below the surface, the next hovering mid level. No false reporting, you needed some angling skill to put a catch together and some real luck to simply manage a beginners luck fish.
Early jigs on the drops produced as we had to stop ON the pile as there was no rhyme or reason as to which way the fish were moving
Monday- DAY- What a BEAUTIFUL DAY on the water!! And the BLUES were back in the office!! Early top water fish had anchovies skimming the surface in desperation. Played with these fish for a bit, then moved to the offshore grounds where bait and jig produced. Whole boatload of regulars enjoyed today and we were glad to share the day
Tuesday is shaping up very nicely and indications weather-wise are looking good
