Last night I had the family out to check out the Macy's fireworks. Been trying to get out for the past couple of years but the weather would not cooperate. Made the run last night. Here's a pic of Verrazano on the way into the harbor. Show was spectacular, the boat traffic what you'd expect, the number of knucklheads, COUNTLESS. Stayed in the back of the pack near Liberty Island to make a quick exit. Couldn't get out of there fast enough especially with the number of boats full open throttle with no regard for anyone in their path
Target... get under the bridge for open water and reverse the route. Phew! Made it. Any radar unit with safety zone alarms a must have. Back at port at 11:15 and all is good. Check that off the bucket list! Besides, I'm fishing with the wifes Father and Brother in the AM.
Monday 7/5 Launched at 7:00 for the deeper stuff. Found a pocket of fish that were real picky. Fought through a bunch of shorts. Found a couple of bonus Cbass along with a few flatties for the box. Dad struggled early in the day with his kamikaze rig (Ok, I just made that up). I'm not sure what to call this conglomeration of stuff he mixes and matches. My father-in-law is 78 yrs old and he tells me the hooks are from his fathers tackle box.
. He had fun catching a bunch of shorts and got one of the CB's. Life is good. Brother in law Brian struggled too early on. It's been a while since he last fished and I had to remind him that it is ok that the eyes on a conventional rod are supposed to be facing up WHAT
He did cap the day by putting a nice 23" in the cooler. So all was good for the day. Bunker all over the place again. Wicked hot with no drift made conditions a tad challenging. Today’s count 23 flatties, 3 Sea Bass, 4 skates, 1 Lionel Ritchie. Keepers 3 Flats, 3 CB’s
Till next time
