Fishguts 8/10 Ocean/bay combo trip
« on: August 10, 2010, 06:11:27 PM »
Today I had Guy and his 2 buddies out for an 8 hour ocean/bay combo trip. These trips are usually a blast from start to finish and this one was no different. Guys buddies are from Virginia where the fluke limit is 14" and they have never seen a seabass larger that 10" in the Chessie. ;D. First up was some seabass on a couple of inshore snags. I was blown away by the quality of fish the guys had today. Most fish were around 15" today with the top going 2.75 lbs. Not a real fast bite but size made up for that. They also had a nice suprise of a 22" keeper codfish. They dropped a few large fish that may have been nice cod or jumbo seabass. With over 20 nice bass on ice it was time to harass the local blackfish population. 3 first time toggers. Lots of swinging, lots of laughs and lots of empty hooks. After about 20 minutes the guys got the feel and started putting some steel to the fish. No jumbos today but real nice 3 to 4 lb fish in very good numbers. The guys grab limits of 4 lb males and released the rest. Next stop was back to the bay for some light tackle fluking. The inlet was fogged in with 20feet vis at the monument. Glad I bring the radar on every trip. The 3 anglers had nice bite of fluke on the out going tide. Guy hammered a sweet 21" 3.5lbs for the only keeper out of 30 plus shorts. Real nice guys today and it was a pleasure to have them out.
