Fishguts 8/12 8/13 Very short wreck trip/bay fluke
« on: August 13, 2010, 08:33:03 PM »
On 8/12 I had Hal and his son Dan out for a short wreck trip. The plan was to hit some very close wrecks, grab some tasty fillets and get in before the sea built. The panga hull really shined in the building seas with so slap, no sheer and no spray. 1st drop put 10 seabass and 6 big porgies on ice and released "lots and lots of shorts". Next stop was a race to grab some toggies before the wind came on. Lots of empty hooks before the blackfish started coming up ;D. With limits of tog to 15" we called it a very short day at 11am. 20 fish for a nice bag of fillets for a sucky weather day. Today the ocean was out of the question with dangerous seas. A 3 man bay fluke trip under very windy conditions produced a slow pick of short fluke with one 19" keeper. The guys finished with 35 fish in a few hours. Very large swell rolling into the bay and dirty water did not help the bite. The Doris Mae spent both trips today drifting the inlet due to the rough sea conditions. I cant imagine the tangles when the tide switched to the out going. Looks like a day off tommorrow. Really looking forward to get back out after the blow and see what the NE did for the bite. I am expecting some very good things t^ t^ t^
