Gulp Bait!!
« on: June 17, 2007, 02:58:38 PM »
Now with this Gulp Bait, do you use it Solo on its own hook, or with a strip of cut squid, etc. I used a strip of cut squid, and a Gulp Squid on one hook, made out ok with it yesterday. Is that how you use it, or what?  TT^

I was at Harry's Saturday.. and happend onto the gulp bait.  wow  very costly.  I think i was seeing like 7$ a pouch..  Is that high.

And the gulp squid was just a little piece of like leather.  can this be used more than once?

Hotrod, yes it can use it more than once.  But when you put it away after you use it, they say to store it away from the unused portion.  I put it in a separate ziplock.

I fish as you all know with Luna Sea my nephew, he is an avid user of the gulp bait. This past Saturday I saw no difference. I used the squid and killies he had gulp bait
We both seemed to be catching fish neither one outfished the other, Just my opinion

In the bay i use a gulpminnow, a live minnow and a spearing. It produces very well. Out front I use a gulp minnow, a strip bait a live minnow and a spearing and it works even better. I dont use strip baits in the bay because they dirty to fast and it is a pain in the butt.
This too shall pass.

Hi Rod,

I used gulp bait most of the day on one of my rods and it lasted all day.  They are very durable plus they have a scent to them.  Wal Mart has them for a little over 6 bucks a pop for 5 or 6 in a bag.  Make sure you seal the bag tight or they will dry up quickly.

Yeh i used the Gulp Squid, with a strip of squid (plain white color from the container), and that produced real good for me also. Have never tried any other gulp's yet, like the crab, clam, sand worm, mullet, etc. Thanks for the help.

My father used yellow swimming mionow with spearing and crushed them on Saturday (when other baits (killies, squid, etc) produced spradic results on the boat.
Once they all changed over, they all started hauling them in.

My wife caught hers on a shrimp teaser on Friday and I caught all my fluke (3 shorts) yesterday on a gulp whole squid with killie on same hook. (squid threaded up on hook looking like it was eating killie).
I am a HUGE gulp fan.

Best artificial bait ever produced in my book.

Sandworms are great for weakfish in August (altho they are small so I mate them with a large rubber sandworm).

i have to agree with the quality of this bait.  The main difference this week, like uncle Luna said, both methods caught about the same amount of fish, BUT, I had to change my bait much less using the Gulp..

Is most gulp bait reusable enough to make it more economical than using say fresh/frozen squid for strip bait?

Personally, I'm all for anything that'll keep my fishing excursions cheap and easy.

Yeah it lasts for quite a few fish, make sure its on well though. They also go from about 7$ a pack to ive seen 8.50$ a pack, and theres only 5 or 6 in a pack. I still like them. My favorite is the Gulp Squid.

If they start to dry out you can toss them into some bunker or sheddar oil and they'll come back to life a bit.  Now they offer the bucket of juice to "recharge" them.

If you leave them on your hook/jig and they dry out, just let it sit in some water to soften.

Don't forget they have the $5 rebate from Berkley going on as well.

i use the swimming mullet 12 per pack, each piece usually last about 4 or 5 fish, and as stated above, about $5.60 at that website.
