Fuel Pump?
« on: August 29, 2010, 09:40:12 AM »
Last trip out no oil leak then yesterday I hear the motor making noise and look at the oil pressure and it's at zero!!lost all oil and its all over the front of the engine again!! Arrrr. I can't see where it's leaking from cause it only does it once in a while!! Could a manual fuel pump leak oil?? That's about the only thing left!!! 5hrug :headscra:

Desperately seeking no more leaks.  BTW, It's a 1996 5.7 350 Mercruiser in case anybody has any suggestions.

After a little research I found that the fuel pump has a clear hose and I think if it were to leak it would go into the carb. I'm lost as to what to check for next :headscra:I mean What else could be leaking oil all over the front of the engine? You would think that if it was a gasket it would leak all the time not once every other trip! Not leaking from the front of the valve covers or intake. New timing chain cover, seal and gasket. It almost looks like it's spraying out of somewhere but when I check it for leaks there are none!!! 5hrug

Could you have crankcase pressure leaking when you are at full RPM?

I'm sure the vent hoses are all in good order but, I'm gonna give them another look anyway!

Thanks.

Not that the hose is bad, but are you getting too much crank case pressure? If you are getting too much pressure, it's going to come out.
