Split rings
« on: September 24, 2010, 10:51:01 PM »
Ladies and gentlemen would anyone care to advise me on the brand and test of split rings I should use with lures starting at 2 going up to 4ozs? As always thank you for your generosity!

Hi Allen,

I usually don't us them unless they come with the lure.  I have gotten use to using the Breakaway clip but on some plugs that are indented I guess split rings are in order.  My rule of thumb would be just think of the quarry you are after and go by the weight of that fish.

The rings are pretty strong and it is a definite to have the ring pliers.  Next time your down I can show you the ones I use.

Happy Catching

Paul

Spro, Rosco, Wolverine, Tsunami...  They all work.  Just make sure they are stainless steel.  I like to use the largest (strongest) split ring that will fit without ruining the action.  On metals you can use some really heavy duty rings.  On smaller plugs like Mambo Minnows you might have to drop down to a size 4 or 5, just because anything larger may not fit on the plug
