Hooked up with Skunk in NB after dropping my daughter off at the train station for a 12:30 trek back to Manahattan. We made the marina by 1:45 and pushed off with trolling gear, metal and softbait. Looking to see if any bass were interested in some Niner shads. SH Bay nice and flat then rounded the hook. Little washing machine action with the N NE and outgoing. Found birds working near the south candlestick. Rods were tracking nice and tought for certain we were getting a knockdown. Not a sniff. Pulled the rigs out and turned to metal. Fish busting all over the place and the hook ups were non-stop. Deadly dick was awesome. Cripled hearing a close second. Suprising could not get a touch on an AVA. Soft plastics were equally effective. Tsunami Sand eels were killer followed by lead heads with white Finesse. These fish were gorged with rainfish, Pnutz and 3" snappers(CANNIBALS!). They wanted nothing to do with any color, size paddle shads. Tried working marks on the bottom areas below the bluefish but no stripes interested in our presentations. We followed the birds in this area for 2.5 hours. Boated and released 30 fish between the two of us. Lost a dozen boatside (my idea of catch and release). Plenty of bumps three feet off the stern. Skunk lightened his tackle box by 3-4 pieces and I gave up a deadly dick.
What a great time playing catch and release with 2-5 lb blues. Started to get a little honky at about 4:30. Left them biting!
