Hunter 2- Sunday 10-10-2010
« on: October 11, 2010, 09:34:49 AM »
Got a later start around 11am, My daughter was riding in a horse show in the morning. We pulled out of Keyport and headed south. I had John, Chris (Cashin) and Steve (Massbaster) on the boat. The water temp had dropped down to 62 deg, tide had just started to go out and the sky was nice and sunny with low wind and flat seas. We started by trolling a shad umbrella rig and a stretch +25 on the outside of sandy hook past the sticks. Nothing was hitting them so I ran down to Shrewsberry rocks and trolled a while with no luck either. We set up for jigging and made several attempts at schools of fish breaking water but they would not bite. I'm not sure what kind of fish was chasing the baitfish up to the top either. I found some marks on the sounder and we started catching weakfish on every drop. Then John hooks up with something heavy and it was a 32" Striper. TT^ That was the only Striper of the day with over 80 weakfish caught and one was a keeper. Most of them were around 12"s. They were hitting Ava 27's and crippled herring in the 4 oz size. Good Luck!,Eddie

Nice Ed. t^ What did the weakies look like on your FF?Had some wierd marks under birds today but could not get them to bite. They were blue/red skinny marks.

Thanks for the ride. Lots of action, with 4 species taken, for the new Atlas reel. Fun day and even better Mexican food after.

They looked like small blue marks just off the bottom. they were hitting the metals on the drop. Dont let the jig freefall, Keep tension on the line and follow it down as you jig near the bottom. This worked for us on Friday and Sunday.

I picked up the same marks while trolling, but didn't stop to try for them.
