10-13 bass report
« on: October 13, 2010, 07:51:08 PM »
left the marina at 5am sharp. Took a slow and  very rough ride down south to ppick up the big bass that were feasting on the sand eels. well they were gone. I was the first boat at the grounds and worked my as% off jigging for fish. the 1 1/2hour ride south was not paying off. had lots of run offs and a bunch of blues. the bass did not like us.  Finally I hooked up to a short...............gee whiz pa. a few few blues later and lots of moves its now after lunch when my buddy KPCOE hooks up to what he swears is a blue.  yeah ok we all say, seeing how he lost a couple fish already.  Finally get the FISH to the boat and i see stripes,,,OMG I grab the net ,drop my rod and ,,,ooppps I dropped my rod in the water. FFFCK !!!! I say fck the fish and I am swinging the net down deep to get my rod and reel. Kevin is yelling" get that bass" and I am screaming about my rig,  My other buddy MIke gets hit in the the head with the net and the rod and is laughing away as I finally net my rod and reel. HOMERUN. Saved the rod and reel and netted a 36 inch FAT bass for Kevin. That was the highlight of the the day. One fat bass and a fat 15 inch jigged porgie and a short seabass. A bunch of the evil  bluefish and a ton of run offs was the result of the day.

from the front of the boat...it was quite a halarious seen...two grown men crunched in the corner on there knees(one holdin his head)....lots of screamin and yellin...i didn't know what the hell was goin on..but the rest of the fleet must have thought we hit the mother load cause we were soon surrounded by 3 party boats and numerous small craft.... chrz...we gotta be in the right place at the right time sooner or later!!!

nice catches Keith. Good read too.

Last summer while drifting near the tip of the Hook for fluke Christine hooked up with a nice rod/reel combo. That thing hit on Gulp! in 75' of water. It evidently had been down there awhile as it was encrusted with barnacles. She released it to fight another day.  As I recall it was right before she reeled up a doormat fluke. Can only imagine what else is down there....

I was on a tuna trip maybe 10 or 11 years ago...Hudson canyon on my buddies boat...

We were on the troll when a very small, probably yellowfin hit on the outer clip of our outrigger....the clip didn't release so my buddie grabs the Penn 50 out of the rod holder and starts snapping the rod back and fourth trying to get the clip to release the line....well it did and when the slack came out of the line it ripped the rod out of his hands right over the stern never to be seen again....
