IBSP - Is this normal???
« on: October 20, 2010, 08:50:20 PM »
On Sunday, my wife and I took the kids to IBSP for the first time.  We relaxed, I put some plugs in the water, really was having a good time.  All of a sudden, about twenty trucks with dudes hanging from every steprail stormed our area like maniacs.  They were aparrently chasing a school of fish, small 6 inch blues to be exact.  Within minutes, they leapfrogged their trucks down the beach chasing these small blues.  It was unreal, unsafe, and odd.
I ask... Is this normal for IBSP??   ???

That is the very reason I stopped getting a buggie permit when I was fishing the surf. I then fished closer to the entrance to the park, where the buggies are not allowed.

Come to think about it, pretty much the same thing happened all day today on the boat.  rgmn rgmn rgmn

I see nothing wrong with people following the fish as long as they aren't compromising safety.

Jason, these people are more than following the fish. If they see a pole bend they will race over and jump out of their ride. You will have just brought a fish in and unhook it. You will then turn around and face the water again to see several of them in your boot prints. A little respect for a persons space would go a long way.

I will say, it is not ALL, and it is not even MOST, but there are enough of them to get the blood boiling.

Yeah.  I agree with that.  Was out there over the weekend.  Was my first witness of "boiling water" out there, and it was going on right in front of us, where we were the ONLY ones around since 5:00am.  The bait never came even close to casting range but we got swarmed by trucks as well, that were hoping they'd come close to the beach.  They gave us our space and when the bait dispersed, so did the people.

With the reports of "blitzing" blues and bass, expect nothing less than that in the days/weeks to come.

Tis' the season guys.  With that said, like Jayson if they do it in a manner that is unsafe well they should pay the piper.  But because of budget cuts the piper is no where to be found.  It will only get worse if the park police are not put back in use once again.

There are people that are on the beach without passes and idiot yahoos that have no regards for anyone but themselves.  As a regular out there and a part of the old timers group they stand clear of us for the most part but every now and than they try to crash the party and get their hands slapped and put down a notch or two.

But, as of right now all you can do is to call the gatehouse or stop in or call the superintendents office and complain.  The more complaints will not help over night but in the long run it might get us some police on the beach.

Even the amount of trash I have been picking up is unreal.  The park is due for a change but I hope that change does not go to the extreme and put those that take charge of their emotions and discharges in jeopardy of loosing our privileged as well.

Happy Catching

I agree Paul....Safety First...especially when you have your kids with you...Notify the gate....
Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

The parade of trucks following fish is normal.  As a matter of fact it's not just IBSP, the same crowd moves with the fish from the N Jetty all the way into Monmouth Co.

I've never seen the hanging from the running boards thing though.

Me neither.  But I could envision a bunch of men screaming like banshees wielding their fishing rods like lances.   fcp
