Skate City today
« on: October 28, 2010, 11:03:23 PM »
Well went out with my uncle today with great expectations as Jason's catch yesterday sturded the juices.  Got to Gillikins about 7:30 in the morning and already the lineup of some great anglers were lined up on the beach.  We found a spot and set up.  First in the water was a bunker chunk with 6oz of lead to hold bottom.

Next came mine the same setup.  I did not see any hit but noticed my line sliding north and I know it was holding.  Pulled it in and one skate on the beach.  The guy next to us the same thing.  2 guys to our south brought in a small brown shark, we both looked at each other and just shook our heads.

We can see the way this day is going to go.  It was getting boring so we decided to head south and as we did stopped to talk to Poppie to see if he was dong anything, nada.  We headed to the inlet to see what was going on and it was all the`same.  It was fun watching the boaters try to navigate the inlet especially with the 4 to 5' waves right down the middle.  One guy launched his boat clear out of the water, this boat was a 27' century with twin engines. amazing.

Well, by this time it was getting close to the time we had to leave so we headed back north to Gillies again only to see guys stuck in the sand all over the place.  Amazing.  Even the guy from Lukeoil was stuck   LOL.  There were at least 25 guys lined up but no one was catching a darn thing.

What a day...

Happy Catching

Better Luck next Time.... TT^
Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

Good try Paul.  Didn't hear much about anything coming up yesterday.  These fish are messing with our emotions now.  :P

Lots guys stuck, huh?  Are the driving conditions that bad up there now or just tire lines everywhere from people chasing birds and folks are getting hung up?

Hi Jason, it is a combination of both.  Because there are so many guys trying to fit into a small area the sand is pretty much torn up and when guys get stuck they don't fill in their ruts they have dug out so it compounds the problem.

It is not for the faint of heart I can tell you.  If anyone is going to venture out at Gillikins make sure that you air down to your minimum air pressure and have a good size engine that will give you good HP at lower rpms.  I have been seeing some light trucks getting stuck simply because they did not have the HP to push them through the ruts.

After the day you pulled me out, Paul.  I have been running 14 lbs. without a problem even in some nasty areas.

That's good Jay, people have no idea of what the conditions are like out there and they ride on and 20' on the beach they are stuck up to the floor boards.  I think it should be mandatory that the state has a mini video that you have to watch before you are given a pass for ride on.

Plus a hefty fine if caught on the beach without a pass and proper equipment.  The majority of us follow the rules but it is that small percentage that can ruin it for the rest of us.

Were the people you saw out there stuck passless?
