How To Tie a Snafu Rig.
« on: December 13, 2009, 03:50:33 PM »
A question I asked myself numerous times was how to tie a snafu rig. Thanks to all of those who have showed me these knots, I thought I would share them with others that didn't get the privilege of getting a 1-on-1 lesson.

*Each picture has a short description below it.*

Tying a snafu rig

First part:
Here is a step-by-step how to Snell hooks using an easy version of the Snell Knot.

#1a: First, I start by cutting a length of leader about 2'. Then you take one end of the leader, and feed it through the eye.

#2a: Next, take the tag end, and loop it upwards. I usually make the tag end at least 6 inches to make it easier to tighten up. Pinch the loop.

#3a: Take the tag end, and wrap it around the shank of the hook.

#4a: Wrap it around the shank 6-8 times.

#5a: Remember the loop you pinched? Slide your grip off of the loop, and onto the wraps.

#6a: Take the tag end, and put it through the loop.

#7a: Begin tightening by pulling on both ends.

#8a: Tighten it all, and trim the tag end.

Snell another hook on the opposite end by repeating the steps above.
Second part:

#1b: Put both hooks together, doubling the line.

#2b: When you put both hooks together, the opposite end forms a loop. Grasp the loop and make a simple overhand knot.

#3b: Wrap it around once more.

#4b: Pull it tight.

#5b: Voila! Snafu rig.

#1c: To make a different version of the snafu, simply Snell 1 hook using step 1a through 8a, but instead of snelling another hook on the opposite end, slide a hook through as pictured above. Tie a surgeons knot at the end, and you have a sliding Snafu.

Now you know how you can tie your own Snafu Rig!

**Please note, when tying Snells with mono and baitholder hooks, be careful not to wrap around the barbs on the shank.**

When you're bored, try this.

Step 1, start by snelling as I did in the pictures above.

Step 2, instead of wrapping 6-8 times, wrap till your fingers cramp.

Step 3, post a picture

Turn an ordinary 6/0 hook, into an EXTRAORDINARY 6/0 hook.  rofla
