Conventional reel
« on: November 14, 2010, 05:22:34 PM »
Anyone ever use a baitcast reel on a spinning pole?
Is there a law against it or just not right to do?  :headscra:

I've done it. My 7' fenwick s glass 1-3 oz rod use to have spinning guides on it. Fished it for years on the boat with a Penn 940. Liked it, so recently changed the guides to casting but only cause it was time to rewrap.  ;D

It will work.  And I'm pretty sure there's no law against it. ;D
Generally speaking, spinning rods have fewer guides than casting rods.  This creates sharper angles of the line and possible line slap.  These can affect the drag and casting.

Not unlawful but you do loose some cool points.  TT^

I guess I will forget that idea. I guess putting a spinning reel on a baitcast rod would look really stupid.  fcp

Rod could also have it's spline on the opposite end since it was made(in theory) to bend one way and now you're making it bend the opposite way.

My only concern would be that you would essentially be using it upside down... Isnt there some sort of support on the top or bottom side of the blank above the grip on a spinning rod?  Unless I'm making this up (a distinct possibility ???), that would be reversed  :headscra:

If it was a conventional rod with a trigger grip and a spinning reel on it, you'd have that upside down, plus the first guide would be too small for a spinner to cast right.
