Headed out to Sheepshead Bay yesterday. Had a great time on the OE. Their crew is the funniest bunch of people. Capt Gregg is aces. One of the best around. Showed how it was done by coming down and putting some nice tog up to 8# over the rail. His knowledge on blackfishing is outstanding. "Watch how they bite better on mono here." BAM! Pulls in some nice tog while others are drowning crabs. Lets everyone know too as he wants to see fish caught. Built up life in one spot then adjusted the boat to try and put his fares on it.
Cathy in the galley cooks food that you'd maybe be able to score at a diner or resturant. Fresh breaded veal was the special of the day. Pounded thin on the boat and breaded before your eyes * yum yum
The swell wasn't bad at all and according to others that were out all last week, it was much better wave-wise. The fishing was much slower overall but had some good flurries of action. One guy had a double header of 4-5# fish that we thought was a jumbo but still a nice catch. Another angler had a nice sized keeper striped bass on crab too. Fish stayed down for first few seconds make everyone think togzilla was hooked but soon gave up and acted like an usual bass.
Overall a pick of fish with some good flurries. Seemed best action was when we'd first settle in on the drop. Captain said fish didn't want to move much so had to be on top of them. Was also biting weird as on one inshore drop as I hooked three keepers fishing braid way too tight and even with the sinker above the bottom.
Had fish on greenies, whole and half. Little better sized ones on whites.
Had my NY limit+ up to 6#. Took the pool too.
Had a great time. Forgot how much I missed that cast of characters. Hopefully knocked off the rust and refilled the tog-jo mojo.
