What a great night of fishing.....The south end of the Point Pleasant canal was good as soon as I got into the water..... The Bass where feeding on small spearing in and around the docks of those condos under the lights.
With the wind starting to pick up I took a paddle over to the small creek that runs through Bay Head in back of the police station....This creek runs into a large pond or lake but is home to tons of bait fish...... The mouth of the creek flows out into the south end of the canal.
Being I didn't have much cloud cover and the moon was bright......You could see the bass sucking bait off the surface.....Cool as hell to see!!!!
Being all the fish are good size and the feed was heavy...I had the chance to try a couple new plugs that I picked up today at Fisherman Supply.
The first plug like always was the yellow Gag's 5" MAMBO Minnow....This is by far my number one lure while fishing the bay.....Bass love to just eat this plug time after time.
The 2 new lures I used with great success was the Golden Eye which I have used before but lost at one time from a blue fish. This lure looks just like a small baby bunker and the action is great.....This lure works great...Yellow again.
Being we had fish last week that had sand eels in there belly....I wanted to try the small 1oz Super Strike needle fish..... 3rd cast....The bass took the entire plug in its mouth....I used this lure the rest of the night.
Being the bass where just going nuts on the surface and I had all the bass fun I wanted....I thought It would be a good chance to just try and see if YELLOW was that good or if the bass where feeding that heavy color would not matter....Then they should hit just about anything.... Right.....Nope Wrong.
I tried both black and green 2 lures both MAMBO,s......They would smack the lure and bump it.....But not strike it like the YELLOW....Soft plastic lures didn't even come close to the striking power of the bass when it sucks down the YELLOW.
Great night of fishing......Had some very, very nice fish tonight......and had the chance to play around to see what seems to work the best while fishing the Barnegat Bay.
This area can only be fished with a boat or kayak......So I dint have to worry about company another night.....The Barnegate Bay is huge and I will never be able to fish every spot at one time.....So my question is.....Why is it that the boats fly down the bay......Rush through the canal.....Go out the inlet.....find the other boats.....jig all day....come back the same way that they left.....with soar arms....$$$$$$ spent in fuel...when the fish I'm catching are under your dock.
The great Barnegate Bay has some of the best bass fishing this time of year....and its only going to get better going into December.
Fishing this body of water....Has been my life for 46 years.....Doing it with a kayak now for the past 15 years has made it that much more fun for me to enjoy.....
Like always be safe and enjoy.....Hope this helps put more fish in your Kayak.
