Knockoffs?
« on: December 08, 2010, 04:13:37 PM »
is this the same reel as Atlas? Sure looks like it, more colors and left-hand available too!

Look at some of the others too, knockoffs of Internationals, GTs, even looks like a couple Abus in there too.

Maybe these guys make it and the other guys just put their name on it?

Doing a search, it seems you can get the Atlas cheaper that these.

The Omoto and the Atlas are the same reels.

Omoto has been around for some time making quality reels for "other " company brands. Kind of neat the way the hype and marketing can work with the Internet . Stingray Tackle was the first I saw carrying the "Avet" type reel. They carry them as Tigre. I believe Stingray was the first because they had a big push at the industry tackle show in Miami last year. With all the glowing reviews from other web sites about Atlas I expected some new wonder reel at a very inexpensive price. Some guys were even claiming they are made locally . China is not local lol. Tons of hype for what turns out to be an Ok reel( plenty of issuses) at the lower end of the price scale that is just being re branded with different stickers. I have both the Atlas and the Tigre(same reels) and have had the same drag problems with both lol. For the price they are a nice reel and enjoyable to use. Not in the same class as the high end reels but at half the price  an ok buy .
