Dolphin washes ashore on NJ beach, dies
« on: November 30, 2010, 09:54:53 AM »
From APP:

STONE HARBOR — A dolphin that washed ashore on a southern New Jersey beach died after 90 minutes on the sand Tuesday morning.

The common dolphin was five-feet long and weighed about 200 pounds.

A police officer responded after a jogger found the mammal on the sand in Stone Harbor around 7:30 a.m.

The officer and a volunteer from the Marine Mammal Stranding Center poured buckets of water on the dolphin, but it died at 9:10 a.m.

Stranding Center Director Bob Schoelkopf says this was the eighth dolphin to die on New Jersey beaches within the past month. Schoelkopf says there were no obvious causes for the deaths. He says there are a large number of dolphins swimming off the coast this time of year.

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

I guess they are not like elephants who go to places unknown to die. Unfortunately, death is a real part of nature.
