Plastic tubing to put on hooks.
« on: January 05, 2011, 05:36:12 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get the tubing that goes on the hook after building a plug? Not the colored tubing like on the AVA's, but the small tubing that makes it so you don't poke yourself.

As Bob mentioned Jeff,

Just buy some romex from Home depot...14/2 or 12/2 size or bigger depending on your hook size...strip off 6 inches at a time, place on the hook just past the barb and snip off the excess....

I do that on my hooks before I even start trying rigs so I don't stick myself...Plus it protects the hook point.

works great.......

Better yet, stop by a construction site where they are doing demolition. You can probably talk the forman into selling you a length of old wiring that is coming out at a reasonable price. Kinda expensive to buy new these days.  t^

I use either vinyl aquarium tubing or window screen spline.  The tubing works well on larger hooks and spline works on smaller hooks.

Jeff,, Im an electrician, Currentely the price of copper wire is very very high. I would use other cheaper options as stated above. Your dad might be able to secure you some wire insulation laying around a jobsight. These days even small scrap pieces of wire are collected to be sold to the scrap metal guy. The screen tubing may be cheapest.
