advice needed on reel
« on: February 17, 2011, 12:54:11 PM »
Any suggestions on a baitcastting reel for a heavy ugly stick?  5hrug I have used a jigmaster conventional reel but the backlash can be awful and you have to use your thumb when reeling in even out how the line winds in

Thanks,
Eamon

You may want to check out the new Penn Squall. Replaced the Penn 525 Mag.

The Penn 310GT has a levelwind and magnets for backlash control.

Pretty sure a lot of places have the 525 at some pretty decent clearance prices as well.

I have the Penn 525mag and love it.  I have used it for a few years now and as with anything it has its faults but the reel has been a work horse.  The new Penn Squall reel is pretty much the same as the old one but the spool can now be tensioned much better allowing you to adjust the spool plus the magnets to just about eliminate all backlashes.

Hope this helps
