Early bass in the surf question

I usualy fish around exact high tide in the surf but havn't had much luck for bass last year. I use lures alot should I use bait more often at a different time of tide?

Bait is always a good choice any time.  But, it is everything if it is not in the right place.  Make sure you are fishing the break in the bar and for an incoming tide fish the inside of the bar and for the outgoing tide try to fish the outside of the bar.

All to often I see guys set up right in front of a huge sand bar and wonder why they are not catching.  If they would only realize that their bait is in maybe 10 to 12 inches of water and not to conducive to catching anything but a sunburn.

Learn to read the water and you will start to catch more often.

I have read that blood worms work well in early March while the water is cold. Also a dark moon helps while surf fishing. Fishing around the top of the tide helps and wind is a big factor too.

WOW    if I had to worry about all this stuff I think I would take up knitting.  Just go out and have fun the learning and catching will come soon enough.  Just be patient.  Listen and read a lot but don't forget you are out there to have fum and relax.

You can catch fish at all stages of the tides. I have spots that are best at dead low and others that are great at high tide. Some spots are best fished on a NE wind and some better with a W wind. Keep a log of all your fishing excursions and eventually you will see a pattern

surf clam is one of the better baits and like stated if your in a shallow area with no structure your not likely to catch i usally find beginning of the out going to be good and find if its a south wind stay home that brings in colder water even in a good spot you get days they wont bite but if you are all alone and the bass are running you have to ask your self whats wrong good ares get crowded quick
