Belmar-Avon Inlet

First Striper season here.  Great info on this forum!  This is my first post--

I've been getting out at the belmar/shark river inlet every day for the past week or so.  Have only seen 2 keeper stripers come in so far from other anglers. 
I've pulled in 2 short stripers and a couple handfuls of sea robins...Been strictly using clams--

Someone please keep me optimistic and tell me to stay out there waiting for the water to warm up?  Should I venture out on the beach next to the rocks?  The inlet seems like a great place with good current and lots of water-- Any tips would be appreciated!

The water is already 50 and above in most areas on the ocean, and even warmer in the bays, so the fish are here and ready.  Don't be afraid to throw some bait in the surf as well.  Myself personally, I enjoy fishing the surf opposed to the inlet.  Try putting some bunker chunks on your hook too since the bunker are around now.  Good luck out there and congrats on your shorties!

Shark River area is still on the slow side for catching. Give it another week or two and you should start scoring better.

Thanks for the congrats on the shorts but I'm looking for a nice striper I can have a nice fight with then take home.  These Sea Robbins give me no fight and I'm not about to take a whole fish just to eat the tail.  

Irish-- Thanks for the insight, I will be waiting it out on the rocks!

I'm going to switch to bunker tonight and see if i get any more action.  Hopefully posting some pictures soon...Off to Mac's I go..

Don't be afraid to try inside the river, like near the rail road bridge.

I prefer plugging and is why I still have not made the trek out front yet. For RIGHT NOW, clam is the jam out front. The numbers of bass being caught on clams out front on IBSP and around Seaside Park are increasing everyday. The bunker pods have not come fully out of the bays and rivers yet. If you can get down to SSP / IBSP and soak some clams on the outgoing tide...High Water Out!!!

Today the water temps were 43 to 46.  Warmest was off Asbury but SR river was 43 on the outgoing tide.  Inlet was also a little sporty with the outgoing into the south wind.

Thanks for the motivation yall.  Hearing that it is getting better every day down south by IBSP gives me hope they are coming to my neighborhood.

Last night was a slosh--went out from 6-830, looks like more fisherman everyday.  crap, if we always got something it would be called catching, not fishing, right?

Man, I've worked at Kleins for a while and never thought to fish over there by the train bridge.  Will do! Thanks Irish

Yeah I know that loud mouth... just kidding.  She's a hard worker-- I since quit and now working at my father's business, Grove Radiator, in Neptune.

Going back out tonight, would be nice to take a keeper!
